Technical Education

The Technical Education course in S1 and S2 is aimed at introducing pupils to a wide range of Technological activities by means of a balanced mix of craftwork, design tasks, graphic communication, related technology, knowledge of materials and electronics.

Throughout the course we aim to foster skills and develop attitudes which give pupils emotional and intellectual satisfaction; introduce them to modern technology; put them at ease in the presence of machinery; provide an introduction to graphics as a universal non-verbal means of communication; and provide opportunities for pupils to experience the satisfaction that comes from designing and making things.

The S1 and S2 course provides a base from which pupils can build further studies from S3 onwards in 'S' Craft and Design, Technological Studies and Graphic Communication.

By the end of second year the department's assessment policy gives a clear indication of those pupils who are capable of following Standard Grade Courses.
