Physical Education
Departmental aims:
- To provide pupils with basic information about their own body, and convince them of the benefits of regular exercise and good diet.
- To introduce pupils to a variety of physical activities and sports, enabling them to identify those they enjoy, with the additional aim of achieving a carry-over effect in to after-school life, and adulthood.
- To encourage attitudes of behaviour based on tolerance, consideration of others, and good sportsmanship.
S1 & S2 Activities
Follows a two-year programme of activities covering:
S1: Hockey, Basketball, Badminton, Gymnastics, Tag Rugby, Athletics and Fitness/Swimming plus Summer Games.
S2: Football, Basketball, Badminton, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Athletics and Fitness/Swimming plus Summer Games.
S3 to S5 - Core Activities
Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Athletics, Table Tennis,
Handball, Fitness Suite , Swimming.
Standard Grade S3/S4
The Standard Grade Physical Education course leads to an award at Credit,
General or Foundation levels. The pupils cover six practical areas: Basketball,
Football, Badminton, Swimming, Orienteering and Athletics. There is a common
theme running through all the activities of Health Related Fitness. The
assessment of pupils is based on Practical Performance which is assessed
internally and a final SQA exam on Evaluation Skills and Knowledge and
Understanding. Standard Grade Physical Education is in addition to normal core
PE time.
