Music
Throughout S1 and S2 pupils are involved in Performing, Inventing and Listening activities. Pupils will develop skills on various instruments including keyboard, guitar, recorder, bass guitar, drums and percussion and they will experience playing not only as a soloist but also as part of a group.
In Inventing pupils gain an insight into the skills required to compose and improvise music. Use is made of the music computer to assist pupils in their learning.
Topics covered in S1 and S2 include "Blues", "Music of Scotland" and "World Musics"., and within these topics pupils develop an informed interest in music by listening to examples of these styles.
Pupils are encouraged to participate in appropriate extra-curricular activities (e.g. Junior Singers, School Orchestra, Junior Concert Band, Recorder Group) and to enjoy and make the most of their time in the Music Department.
The S1 and S2 course may lead to SQA presentation in Standard Grade and 'H' Grade in third year and upwards.
