P7 Visit the School

On the 17th and 18th June, Primary Seven pupils who will be coming to Websters’ after the summer as our new S1, visited the school. They attended some of the classes they will be in August, had their photographs taken for their National Entitlement Cards and worked on their Transition Project.

The latter is an important new initiative for which Webster’s and the cluster primaries have received funding from the Nuffield Trust. In their primary classes and working in teams, the pupils have been investigating Local Heroes. During the two days last week in Webster’s this work continued with several presentations being made. The project will be picked up again in August/September when the pupils will be in S1.

Elsewhere in the Newsletter there is a piece about the Curriculum for Excellence. This Transition Project is a very good example of the CfE philosophy: reducing the disruption caused by moving from primary to secondary; getting pupils to work together; making connections across the old subject divides; and learning to take a pride in the local area, a particularly appropriate thing to do in Homecoming year and definitely part of good citizenship.
