Scottish Education
is in the midst of its biggest upheaval in a generation. Most parents
will already be familiar with some of the thinking underpinning the
initiative: we are trying to develop young people as successful
learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible
citizens. We are, however, still in the early stages of this new
Government initiative. In a few years time what pupils learn, how they
learn and how they are assessed will undergo very substantial changes…or
at least they should if we can turn the rhetoric of Curriculum for
Excellence into reality. To do that, this school and all other schools
will have to work ever more closely with local communities and a very
good example of this new emphasis is the increasing priority now being
given to vocational education (see next page).
