There is growing concern across Scotland over the misuse of mobile ‘phones in and around schools. In general parents are advised not to allow their children to bring mobile phones to school to reduce the risk of misuse, loss, theft or damage.
However it is recognised that some parents wish their child to have a mobile phone so that they can, for example, make contact after school if staying in town for some activity. Mobile phones are not therefore ‘banned’ from Webster’s High School, but must not be used at all during school times.
If it is necessary to contact a parent this should always be done through the school office. Pupils should never try to contact a parent directly from school using a mobile ‘phone and we request that parents call the school office if, for any reason they need to contact their child during the school day.
Our rule with regard to pupils who do have a mobile phone with them is that-
In summary, whilst in the school building, no one else will know if a pupil does have mobile ‘phone with them because it will not be seen or heard in any way.
If a ‘phone does come to the attention of a member of staff, it will be confiscated and passed to the pupil’s Year Head.
The pupil should see their Year Head at the end of the day to explain their contravention of the school’s rules on mobile ‘phones. Normally the phone will be returned to them but this breach of the rules will be recorded.
If the same pupil is caught again using a mobile ‘phone’
It will not be returned to the pupil, but the Year Head will ask the pupil’s parent or guardian to come to school to discuss the matter and reclaim the ‘phone.
